When I saw The Temptations and The Four Tops at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) in September, 2025 (A Night of Legends with The Temptations and The Four Tops at CCPA – Review), I was in awe of two legendary acts that transported the audience back to the golden era of 1960s soul music. So when word came that The Miracles and The Spinners would be taking the stage at CCPA, there was no question I would be in the audience once again.
This time, I brought along my friend “The Heavy Hitter” Kandi Krush, the WOW Superhero, professional wrestler and boxer. A former trios champion with WOW - Women Of Wrestling who is now looking to capture the silver tag team championships with her Top Tier partner Coach Campanelli, following the expulsion of what they referred to as their, “weak link” Gloria Glitter. Krush was thrilled to experience an evening filled with the soulful sounds of two legendary R&B groups. By the end of the night, she declared it the best concert she had ever attended.
The Miracles and The Spinners delivered a memorable evening at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, bringing decades of classic R&B and soul to the stage before an enthusiastic audience.
One of Motown’s pioneering groups originally fronted by Smokey Robinson (who returns to the Cerritos Center on Saturday, January 2, 2027) and the label’s first million selling act, The Miracles helped establish the sound that would become synonymous with Detroit soul. The group produced an impressive collection of Top 40 hits, including “Shop Around”, “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me”, “I Second That Emotion” and “The Tracks of My Tears.” Each of those songs has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
The group’s remarkable catalog also includes, “Tears of a Clown”, “Ooo Baby Baby”, “Mickey’s Monkey” and “Going to a Go Go.” More than six decades after the group first made its mark, The Miracles continue to bring those beloved songs to audiences around the country.
Now led by Sydney Justin, alongside his brother Kerry Justin, Cordell Hamilton Conway and Eric “Swinn” Swindell, the group delivered an energetic performance that kept the audience engaged throughout the set. With the Justin Brothers both being retired NFL players, their dance moves were as impressive as their voices.
During “Foxy Lady,” our personal celebration reached the stage when Krush was invited up to dance with Swindell. Several other women joined in, creating one of the evening’s most spontaneous and entertaining moments.
The Miracles have received the Rhythm & Blues Foundation Pioneer Award and were named to Rolling Stone’s list of the, “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.” The group has also been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the R&B Music Hall of Fame.
Following the Motown sounds of The Miracles, The Spinners took the audience on a journey through their signature brand of Philadelphia Soul.
The six time Grammy nominated group has enjoyed a career spanning more than six decades, producing a remarkable collection of hits that continue to resonate with audiences of all ages.
I was a little surprised that The Spinners opened their set with, “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love,” which I had anticipated would be later in the evening. However, this immediately set the tone for an evening filled with familiar melodies, smooth harmonies and energetic performances. They continued with favorites including “I’ll Be Around”, “Working My Way Back to You” and “Cupid.”
Their extensive catalog also includes “Yesterday Once More”, “Long Live Soul Music”, the No. 1 classic “Then Came You” and closing the night with, “The Rubberband Man.”
One of the most touching moments of the evening came during “Sadie,” which was dedicated to the mothers, grandmothers and other matriarchs who have played important roles in the lives of audience members. The tribute carried special meaning for one woman whose mother had passed away the day before and who was unable to attend the concert, but received a signed letter of condolences by the band, given to her friends in attendance.
Current members Jessie Peck, Ronnie Moss, CJ Jefferson and Keith Patterson proudly carry forward The Spinners’ musical tradition, preserving the group’s trademark harmonies, classic songs and energetic live performances.
The group’s enduring appeal was further demonstrated in 2021 with the release of the original album, “Round the Block and Back Again.” Two years later, The Spinners reached another milestone when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2023.
Meeting The Spinners drummer Marcus Hunter became another highlight of the evening for both Krush and myself. Hunter made sure we had a great time with a warm interaction even after the house lights came on. He was even kind enough to give us each a set of his drum sticks.
For fans of classic R&B and Soul, the evening was a celebration of musical history brought to life by artists who continue to perform the songs that defined generations. The Miracles kept the Motown tradition alive while The Spinners delivered the smooth Philadelphia Soul that made them two of the most enduring groups in American music.
The experience was unforgettable and another opportunity to witness living legends bring the soundtrack of multiple generation to the stage at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
