Macabre Spirits Sets Sail into Rum with New Saltspray - News
Saltspray is a bold 90-proof Jamaican rum paired with a chilling story of secrets lurking beneath the surface.
Macabre Spirits, the horror-focused label from Find Familiar Spirits, has announced the release of Saltspray, a limited-edition 90-proof Jamaican rum paired with an original horror story by Bram Stoker Award-nominated author Gemma Amor and custom artwork by acclaimed illustrator Daniele Serra.
Find Familiar Spirits was founded by actor Matthew Lillard, known for his roles in Scream and Five Nights at Freddy’s, and screenwriter-producer Justin Ware, with guidance from Blue Run Spirits co-founder Tim Sparapani. The company specializes in pairing premium spirits with original fiction and artwork created by prominent voices in genre entertainment.
Saltspray is the latest entry in the Macabre Spirits anthology series and features a new horror story from Amor, original cover art by Serra and a super-premium rum presented in a custom black glass bottle designed for collectors.
The rum will be available beginning June 23 through Find Familiar Spirits’ website and Seelbach’s.
“We’ve wanted to do a rum for a while, but we hadn’t found the right story to inspire us,” Ware said. “When Gemma pitched us the idea for Saltspray, we knew it was the perfect time to take the plunge. Inspired by the cliffs of her native England, Gemma has written a tale about hidden secrets that’s creepy and monstrous but also intimate and all too human.”
Amor, a nominee for both the Bram Stoker and British Fantasy awards, wrote the story that inspired the release. The accompanying artwork was created by Italian illustrator Daniele Serra, a three-time British Fantasy Award winner for Best Artist and a two-time World Fantasy Award finalist.
According to the company, Serra’s original artwork reflects the themes of the story by blending elements of beauty, fear and mystery.
The rum is sourced from Hampden Distillery in Jamaica and bottled at 90 proof. Tasting notes include island spice, honey, demerara sugar and warm apple aromas, followed by tropical fruit flavors and the distinctive character associated with Jamaican rum.
The company said the spirit is intended for both cocktails and neat pours. Saltspray is bottled and packaged in Florida.
The exploration into the red-hot category of artisanal rum goes on sale exclusively at FindFamiliarSpirits.com and at Seelbach’s on June 23rd, 2026.
