Terra Taylor Knudson Talks About the World Premiere Play 'Mourning Sunset' - Interview

Olio Theatre Works founder, Terra Taylor Knudson talks about the the world premiere play, 'Mourning Sunset' coming to IUCC in Irvine, CA.

I recently spoke with Terra Taylor Knudson, founder of Olio Theatre Works, about the company’s newest production, “Mourning Sunset,” an original drama she wrote that will make its world premiere August 6 through 15, 2026, at Irvine United Congregational Church in Irvine, CA.

Directed by Carl Propst-dasilva, the intimate family drama follows James as he navigates the impending loss of his wife, Katherine. The unexpected arrival of his estranged parents, Doug and Amanda, forces the family to confront years of unresolved trauma, grief, and regret, testing whether forgiveness and reconciliation are still possible.

The production features Savannah Moffat, John Sturgeon, Dylan Vessel, and Knudson, with Jill Prout serving as production stage manager, sound design by Caleb Leal, and costume support by Violet Hesslein.

Knudson and I talk about the world premiere, theatre as a whole, the embarrassing fact that it took me so long to discover Olio Theatre Works and the work they are doing within the arts community in their home base of Long Beach, CA.
