I recently spoke with Georgian American writer and director Nika Agiashvili about his latest action film, “Atlas King.”
“Atlas King,” is a gritty action thriller set in the dangerous world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), starring former Middleweight Champion and UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping as Atlas King, who returns home for his mentor Dutch’s funeral to find Los Angeles’ fight scene controlled by crime boss Clay Emerson (Academy Award Winner Cuba Gooding Jr.). With Tommy (George Finn), Dutch’s son now in the trenches, it has become a battle for the young fighter’s soul. The film also co-stars Sarah Wayne Callies and Penelope and Anne Winters as Collette.
In our interview, we discuss his drive to make high quality action films, what it was like working with the former UFC Middleweight Champion standing in the same frame as an Academy Award winne and how Agiashvili brought an Eastern European sensibility to Los Angeles, CA.
